On Saturday, I took the train from Bath to Oxford, arriving around lunch time. I checked into the hostel by the train station, and then went wandering. The main streets were crowded with groups of students and tourists. My walk took me by the Bodleian Library (!!!), The Sheldonian Theatre, Radcliffe Camera, up the tower of the Church of St Mary the Virgin for a view of all the spires, into the covered markets, and around Oxford Castle. I also went to the University Museum and the attached Pitts Rivers museum. Both were really nice, and I kept thinking how much my newphews would have loved exploring them...big skeletons and stuffed animals and a fascinating and exotic collection of anthropological artifacts from all over the world, with drawers to open and things to touch! I love old stuff and old buildings and old books, so this was just a taste of good things to be discovered in Oxford...
